Or what do I find funny? I discovered Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books many years ago, and I still enjoy re-reading those books in my collection and looking forward to his latest offerings. The humour in them is just my type of humour – I have often found myself laughing out loud whilst reading – not good if you are on a crowded train or hospital waiting room.
I am always on the look-out for new books that I might enjoy – they don’t have to be a laugh a line, but something that just catches my imagination. I’m not necessarily looking for “comic” or comedy books – quite often those are the sort that do nothing for me. It is the same as watching comedies and comedians on TV – for example I enjoy watching Peter Kay, but Jennifer Saunders and AbFab leave me cold. {I have only ever seen excerpts and trailers for AbFab – & have never wanted to see more. “Heresy” I hear my friend saying – she loves that programme. )
Some books that have made me smile since getting my kindle range from finding one or two bits of humour in a more serious thriller to the lighter style of crime thrillers such as the Mike Malone Mysteries by Milly Reynolds, some books from the genre known as chick-lits (sometimes referred to as romantic comedies) and humorous fantasy – such as the U.N.D.E.A.D. books by Darren Humphries. One of my favourite funny books is “White Lies and Custard Creams” by Susan Alison, which I read about a year ago. Some parts of that were so funny (well I thought so anyway) that thinking about them now still makes me smile. I know these books aren’t everybody’s cup of tea (why do we say that? – I don’t like tea personally) but wouldn’t it be boring if everyone liked the same things?
First time here on your blog Janet - good stuff BUT just had to say - thank you so much for introducing me, all those years ago, to Terry Pratchett - he's one of a kind!!! Thank you! Pam X
